Head-turning design (Points scored: 7/10)
When we first set eyes on the MINI Cooper S Coupe in BMW’s basement car park to pick it up, it did look a little odd. All the traits that made it a MINI were there, and it was easy to spot as one right away. But that roof...
“Oh, dear”. We first thought. But then followed, “Oh, wow”, and a series of “Oh, yes”s.
The Coupe looks precisely like a concept car drawing artists come along with that bleeds imagination and artistic value. And it wasn’t just us who thought it looked brilliant, this car got us the most head-turns and stares we’ve ever got in a less-than-supercar car.
It felt good to be seen in something that’s straight off the full-colour cover of a magazine. And that wasn’t all to its cool.
Movable rear wing? Yes please!
Being the kind of track car it is, MINI have fitted the Coupe with a movable rear wing that springs up when you go above 85km/h automatically, and drops again when you slow down to 55km/h. And it’s even manually controllable for when you’re at the traffic lights, and just want to let people around you know you’ve got a movable rear wing (yes, we did a lot of this). Brilliant!
