Beaulieu shows no shortage of supercars and classics
Supercar Showdown
Beaulieu’s popular Supercar event, Supercar Showdown, is now in its fifth year and continues to go from strength to strength, with over 5,600 visitors attending this year’s show on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August, over 80% up on 2011. The addition of a demonstration straight, first introduced in 2011, has proved to be a huge hit with visitors and drivers alike and greatly added to the excitement of the day.
Twice during the day, a selection of prestigious supercars were powered up to take part in the Demonstration Run through the Beaulieu parkland. As the supercars opened up their engines at full throttle, they gave watching visitors a tantalising glimpse of what their powerful engines are really capable of.
There was also an opportunity for visitors to meet and chat with the owners of the impressive line-up of over eighty supercars and choose their favourite car of the day in the People’s Choice Award.
A stunning canary yellow Lamborghini Murcielago received the most votes. Owned by Glenn Brooks from Andover, this top of the range, flagship Lamborghini has 710 bhp. Glenn has been a Lamborghini owner and club member for five years and purchased the Murcielago in November 2011 to replace his Diablo Roadster which he recently gave to his son for his 21st birthday.
The Supercar ShowdownOther heavyweights of the supercar world on display were an F40 and F50 Ferrari, a 360 Spider, Mercedes SLS, Ultima GTR Can-Am, and a classic Aston Martin Vantage GT2. Also joining the event were Porsche of Bournemouth, Somerset-based Ariel Motor Company, McLaren, Woking and the Westover Group which displayed a selection of its top Nissan models. Car clubs in attendance included the Wessex Car Club and the Porsche 997 Register.
